The 4 year Dharma training course was launched in 2009. The first year – the foundation course - is open to people who have been coming along to the Centre for at least 6 months and who have done at least a couple of courses or who have been coming regularly to the Saturday morning classes. Years 2-4 of the course are for mitras only.
The course includes modules on the principle Buddhist teachings, both practical and theoretical, as well as on some of the more important scriptures and philosophical schools. There are modules on the Bodhisattva Ideal; on the nature of the Sangha or spiritual community; on faith, symbols and the imagination; on ethics and the environment; on Buddhist psychology; and on the history of the Triratna Buddhist Community.
For each year of the course there are 7 modules of which 4 are selected. There is a great emphasis on the importance of putting what one learns into practice.
There are currently several study groups running, covering both the one-year foundation course and the three-year mitra study course. New groups are formed as and when enough people are ready to form one and a study leader is available. All groups are single sex.
If you are interested in joining a group, please contact the Mitra convenors via the Centre at info@buddhistcentrecroydon.org
