Wheelchair Lift Appeal

Whilst the Fundraising appeal is ongoing the centre will still rely on the generosity of our sangha in the donations they give towards the running of the Buddhist Centre and its activities. Please continue to show your support for the Buddhist Centre through visiting our donations page here. Thank you

Over the last few years, we have been fundraising to enable a much needed refurbishment of our shrine room and reception area. That work is now complete, but with extra costs incurred for structural repairs, we now need to raise additional funds to have our wheelchair platform lift installed on the reception entrance stairs.

Our aim at the Croydon Buddhist Centre has been to make the teachings of the Buddha available to all people in our local community and we do this mainly through drop-in classes in Buddhist meditation. We also run day events, courses and festivals at our centre. However, our building is on a slope, so the only access to our reception and shrine room is via a set of stairs.

We have a few visitors to our centre with mobility issues who can manage the stairs with help, however we have visitors to our shop who can't yet access our classes, but are very interested in joining our sangha and attending classes. We have researched wheelchair lift options advice and have decided on an 'Inclined Platform Lift', which will provide an self-controlled 'roll on-roll off' lift for those in wheelchairs and with mobility aids.

You can help us in several ways;

  • make a direct one off donation, or set up a standing order of regular donations

  • organise a fundraising event for our appeal via MyDonate

  • do bake sales etc to raise funds at the Buddhist Centre

  • do a swimathon, bike ride, sponsorred walk or a marathon

  • Be creative, have fun, build sangha

All donations will go a long way in helping us realise this goal. If you're a UK tax payer, please consider completing a Gift Aid Form. This enables us to claim back from HMRC, 25p for every £1 you donate, at no extra cost to you. So £10 becomes £12.50, £50 becomes £62.50 and £100 becomes an amazing £125.

Donations can be made via the MyDonate button above, or directly to the Buddhist Centre. Gift Aid declarations can be found at the Buddhist Centre reception or can be downloaded and printed here. Gift Aid Standing Order Form

Fundraising Update

The fundraising has gotten off to a great start with nearly £1838.42 being donated so far!

Why not organise your own fundraiser? At the centre we have a plant sale, homemade slippers for sale, a Bake Sale on Saturday August 5th and many more activities planned – watch this space! Thank you all for the generous donations so far, do keep them coming. Special thanks to Maddem Films Ltd (#ThreeSeconds) who kindly made a donation to our appeal whilst their cast and crew were filming nearby.
