Have you ever felt empty and unfulfilled while using your phone, yet found it hard to pull yourself away? The Buddha taught that we have the power to develop healthy relationships with all things, even our devices. Although phones didn't exist in the Buddha's time, his teachings still apply. There are tangible ways to work with our relationship to addictive technologies to give space to a more connected life.
In this six-week course we will be discovering ancient practices and modern tools that help us use digital technology more wisely. This will help us clear the way for a more meaningful life.
What will we be doing during the course?
Each week we'll unpack a Buddhist teaching and discover how we can apply it to our digital lives.
At the heart of the course is a 3-week "going forth" period, where we will renounce non-essential digital technologies. We will explore together how this affects our daily experience - prepare to be surprised!
You probably have a sense of at least one digital habit you know is not serving you... Are you checking an app too often, spending hours on a streaming service, or reading the news online more than necessary? By letting go of these technologies we will rediscover how we actually want to be spending our time. We will then reintroduce them with clearer intentions and boundaries.
We'll also be doing plenty of meditation together - a powerful tool to move our minds from a 'reactive' to a 'creative' mode. There will be opportunity to ask questions and discuss your experiences with others - you won't be on this journey on your own!
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to come into a more intentional, balanced, and skillful relationship with the digital technology in their life. Whether you are new to Buddhism or a more experienced practitioner, this course provides the opportunity to apply Buddhist wisdom to this very modern problem.
Course requirements
During this course we will be renouncing non-essential digital technologies, and participants will be required to take part in this. However, everyone will have agency over which technologies they would like to let go of for the three-week period. This practice will have the intention of freedom and exploration, rather than restriction or perfection - you don't need to worry about 'messing up'.
Course costs
All our courses offering Buddhist teaching are by donation, because we believe that the Buddha's teachings should be freely given. We recommend a donation of £75 / £50 (concession rate) for this course, but we welcome you however much you can afford to give.
