August is a time to hit the pause button, to slow down and savor the richness of life. It's an opportunity to reap the fruits of our hard work in the first half of the year. With this spirit in mind, we offer a special space this August, open to all seeking peaceful conditions for Buddhist practice. Join us to rest, reflect, and appreciate all the gifts we already have.

Connecting with the tradition

In the Buddha's time, monks would stay put during the rainy season, allowing for a period of rest, reflection, and deepening connections. This practice not only helped them absorb the teachings but also gave farmers' crops a chance to grow undisturbed.

Similarly, in Britain, August used to be a time when workers and their families would retreat to the countryside, escaping the smog of the city. They would engage in activities like climbing apple trees and mowing hay, appreciating the abundance of nature and reaping the benefits of their hard work.

What can I expect?

These enriching sessions will offer a peaceful and supportive space for everyone, from beginners to seasoned practitioners. You can learn to meditate or deepen your exisitng practice, connect with like-minded individuals, and participate in meaningful Buddhist rituals. If you haven't been to the Buddhist Centre before, this is a great way to learn what's going on in here!

You’ll have ample opportunity to ask questions and gain insights from teachers experienced in meditation and Buddhism.

You don't need to book, just come along and engage in meditation, community and ritual with us.

Who are these sessions open to?

The sessions are open to all, including long-term practitioners and complete beginners. Newcomers will receive guidance tailored to their experience level, whereas experienced practitioners will be welcome to engage in their chosen practice.

Do I need to bring anything?

Meditation gear will be provided, however you are welcome to bring your own. Comfortable clothes for sitting meditation are recommended.

What do the sessions cost?

All our classes offering Buddhist teaching are by donation, because we believe that the Buddha's teachings should be freely given. We recommend a donation of £10 / £8 (concession rate) per session, but we welcome you however much you can afford to give.
