Parinirvana Day Festival
We come together to mark the final moments of the Buddha's life. The ancient texts tell us when the Buddha physically died, he reached "parinirvana", a liberation beyond all imagining. It is also a time to remember those we have lost. All welcome.

The Buddhist path is not just a journey towards a better life - though it is certainly that. It is also a journey altogether beyond the endless cycle of life and death.
That's why, each year, we come together to mark the final moments of the Buddha's life. The ancient texts tell us when the Buddha physically died, he reached "parinirvana", a liberation beyond all imagining.
Parinirvana Day is a celebration of the possibility of total freedom. Together, through ritual, meditation and discussion, we'll reflect on the significance of the Buddha's death. We'll discover that if we confront the mystery of death head-on, we find an unexpected resource of meaning, freedom and love.
Everyone is warmly welcome, whether it is your first time or have been coming along for years.
Plan for the Morning
10:30 - 11:00 Loving-kindness meditation
11:00 - 11:30 "The Trackless One'': The Buddha Beyond Death - talk by Viryadeva
11:30 - 11:45 Tea break
11:45 - 12:45 Seven-fold puja
As part of this ritual we’ll have the opportunity to remember people who have died in the year gone by. If you’d like someone special to you included in this ritual, please bring a photo of them to be placed on the shrine, and let Viryadeva or Prajanandi know their name on the day. Their name will be read out during the ritual.
