All welcome, regardless of experience

August is a time to hit the pause button, to slow down and savor the richness of life. It's an opportunity to reap the fruits of our hard work in the first half of the year. With this spirit in mind, we offer a special space this August, open to all seeking peaceful conditions for Buddhist practice. Join us to rest, reflect, and appreciate all the gifts we already have.

Connecting with the tradition

In the Buddha's time, monks would stay put during the rainy season, allowing for a period of rest, reflection, and deepening connections. This practice not only helped them absorb the teachings but also gave farmers' crops a chance to grow undisturbed.

Similarly, in Britain, August used to be a time when workers and their families would retreat to the countryside, escaping the smog of the city. They would engage in activities like climbing apple trees and mowing hay, appreciating the abundance of nature and reaping the benefits of their hard work.

The Summer of Abundance offers a chance to reap the fruits of our practice, enjoy each other's company, and work together.

How will this work in practice?

Join our practice sessions on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings to deepen and reconnect with what we've been learning this year. You don't need to book, just come along and engage in meditation, community and ritual with us.

Saturday Mornings (3rd, 10th, 17th,  24th August), 10:30am-12:45pm: Come for meditation, ritual and to spend time with the community. Our emphasis will be on meditating and devotional practices with chanting.

Wednesday Evenings (7th, 14th, 21st) 7:15pm-9:30pm:  A chance to be with friends we've made on courses throughout the year and meditate together. There will be space for questions and to revisit practices covered so far in our Wednesday courses over the past six months.

The month will culminate in a Working Retreat (26th - 31st August), see details here

Who are these sessions open to?

The sessions are open to all, including long-term practitioners and complete beginners. Newcomers will receive guidance tailored to their experience level, whereas experienced practitioners will be welcome to engage in their chosen practice.

What do the sessions cost?

All our classes offering Buddhist teaching are by donation, because we believe that the Buddha's teachings should be freely given. We recommend a donation of £10 / £8 (concession rate) per session, but we welcome you however much you can afford to give.
